In Uganda, 46% of the population is under 14 years old, with a mortality rate of 41 out of 1000 for those under five years old. Street children make up a significant portion of the population. Undocumented cases often lead to the exploitation of forced labor, child marriage, and prostitution. The country faces widespread health crises related to hunger and abuse.
RDM provides support to Blessed Hope Orphanage in rural Mityana, where 36 children receive care under the guidance of a young married couple, Ian and Nagawa Kakembo. The orphanage was founded by Ian and his brother Joseph, who lived on the streets as very young children. Both brothers were rescued by a local pastor who cared for them in his home. The two brothers have continued to work with underprivileged street children.
More details about their story, accompanied by photos, are available at www.blessedhopeug.com. Additionally, Verna is the author of the book Kakembo: A Heart Connection.
We continually pray these children will mature into strong individuals, spiritually, mentally, and physically, to become the future Davids, Daniels, and Deborah’s that their culture so desperately needs.
